Sat May 8: FARMERS MARKET OPENS
Farmers market opens with spring greens and plants.
10 AM: Kids invasive species walk Children will hunt for and remove several invasive species. Parents and other adults are welcome. Contact Steve Stycos (461-2618). Meet at the market table.

Tues. May 18: Film, “Where do the Children Play?” The PBS documentary looks at children’s opportunities for independent creative outdoor play in the era of helicopter parents. 7 PM at Cranston’s Hall Library, followed by a discussion with representatives of ExploreCranston, the Providence Children’s Museum and the Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Sat May 22: 8 AM: Bird walk starting at the lower Rhodes on the Pawtuxet parking lot, guided by Mike Kieron, assistant curator of the Roger Williams Park Museum of Natural History. Bring binoculars, but not dogs. Children should be at least seven years old.

Tues. May 25: 6:30 PM: Horseshoe crab walk at Stillhouse Cove with Save the Bay Habitat Restoration Coordinator Wenley Ferguson. Short walk during a spring moon tide to watch horseshoe crabs mate and review the cove restoration. Meet at the cove’s south end at the junction of Ocean Avenue and Narragansett Boulevard in Cranston. Rain date May 26.

Sat. June 5: Cooking demonstration at the market. Free samples.
9:30 AM Walk from Bellefont Pond to the market along the Pawtuxet River. Meet at the end of Park View Boulevard, Cranston, at the railroad tracks. (Park View Boulevard runs off Park Avenue across from the entrance to Roger Williams Park). Steve Stycos (461-2618) will lead the walk along this little used path, discuss land ownership and plants. Kids will be encouraged to smash invasive species. Carpool back available.

Sat. June 12: Market moves to William Hall Library parking lot, Broad Street, Cranston for Gaspee Day ONLY. If you drive, avoid Park Avenue and Pawtuxet Village.

Wed. June 16: Firefly walk: 8:45 PM at the lower Rhodes on the Pawtuxet parking lot. Erik Anderson (474-1515) will lead a half hour walk to see the firefly mating ritual. Bug repellent, long sleeves and pants recommended. Please no jars, nets, dogs or noisy electronics.

Sat. June 19: Farm & River Day sponsored by Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island Market returns to Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.
9-12 Spring book sale to benefit the Fratantuono boys college educations.

Sat. October 16: Pumpkin & Paw Paw Festival: 9-12:30 at the market. The Pawtuxet Village Association, Edgewood Garden Club and Friends of the Pawtuxet offer canoe rentals, hay rides, a kids craft activity and gardening advice. Paw paws for sale. Bring your plastic plant pots for farmers to reuse. Reservations recommended for canoe rentals.
