Jim and Michelle Garman are pleased to offer a limited number of Farm Shares for the 2013 growing season. Our Farm Share provides you with 20 weekly deliveries of vegetables, fruits, and herbs from our farm in Middletown. The Farm Share program runs from June 10th through October 21st. Our Farm Share program is customizable in that you can select what you want, subject to availability. This way you don't get stuck with 10 lbs. of kohlrabi (unless you want to!) On Thursday we e-mail you a list of what we're picking the following week. You decide what you want and fill out the form online by Sunday night. On Tuesday we deliver your produce. It's that simple. The Individual/Smaller Families Share (suitable for 1-2 persons) allows you a minimum order of $20.00 per week at our wholesale prices. Those choosing the Larger Families Share (3-5 people) can order $30.00 per week. You can always order additional items; just add them to the form before you send it on Sunday. Thanks for supporting local agriculture carried out with exclusively organic methods. Members of Casey Farm's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program receive a mix of fresh organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and pick-your-own items weekly through the season. A CSA share feeds one to four people. The cost is $600 for the 20-week season. CSA Shares: A share includes: Once-a-week distribution of fresh vegetables, fruits in season, and herbs. Pick-your-own produce, fresh flowers, and extras when available. Opportunity to buy maple syrup, honey and eggs when available. Newsletter throughout the season and a one-year Historic New England membership. Sample Weekly Shares: June & July Pick-your-own berries; one or two heads of lettuce; basil, spring garlic, garlic scapes, scallions, and summer onions; mixed greens (e.g.spinach, arugula, swiss chard); a choice of mixed vegetables such as turnips, radishes, beets and carrots. Late July may offer a choice of summer squash, zucchini, and cucumbers. September & October: Pick-your-own cherry tomatoes and green beans; one pound of salad greens; a choice of mixed vegetables such as peppers, eggplant, broccoli, carrots, and cabbage; heirloom and red slicing tomatoes; garlic. October may offer sweet potatoes and winter squash. CSA members pick up their share of produce/fruit on either Tuesdays 3 to 6:30 p.m. or Fridays 3 to 6 p.m. in our share barn. Certified Organic Casey Farm is certified organic by the USDA. This ensures that our methods are absolutely free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. What is CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, often shortened to CSA, is a prepaid subscription to a farm's produce for the season. Most CSAs give shareholders a weekly supply of veggies, herbs, fruits and sometimes even eggs and meat. You know it's fresh and you get to meet the farm and people who grew your food! The prepaid CSA arrangements also makes it a source of financial security for the farmer. Some CSAs also incorporate farm workdays for shareholders. Pickup days vary by farm and some offer pickups in Providence.CSAs have been very popular recently. Be sure to sign up early before subscriptions are filled!
